BRAND PARTNERSHIP PROPOSAL
OVERVIEW:
I love this quote because - to me - it perfectly summarizes the value that exists when brands and influencers collaborate:
"Research shows that consumers overwhelmingly trust influencers and their recommendations. This develops because people typically follow influencers over a long period of time and come to feel that an influencer is almost like a friend. This also results in consumers forgetting that influencers are paid to sell the products — whether overtly included or not — that they feature in their content," explained Colin Campbell, associate professor of marketing at the University of San Diego's Knauss School of Business and editor-in-chief of the Journal of Advertising Research.
For these options for collaboration, I want to integrate these sponsorships into my videos in a natural and organic way. I don’t like when influencers make a video about one topic but then halt and interrupt the video to have a completely unrelated message from their sponsor. I get why it must be done, but when it comes to the types of collaborations I’m having with brands like Track Club, Set App, and Anker, I want the viewer to feel like they didn’t just watch a sponsorship read or an ad spot.
Here’s a recent comment from a viewer that reinforces that my approach is effective:
This is incredible input from a viewer, and I think it’s tremendously valuable for brands to understand how important it is that sponsorship integrations are organic, authentic, and effortless for viewers to consume. When an integration is abrupt, halting, and interrupt the viewers “flow state” when watching a video, it can create a negative association for that brand. I want to avoid the generation of a negative feeling completely when it comes to sponsorship integrations.
LEARNING YOUR PLUG-IN
Please be mindful that there may be considerable time and effort devoted to not only learning the mechanics of your plug-in but trying to understand the ideal customer whose workflow problems and friction can be solved with this product. I also need to understand how this plug-in may be something that some customers didn’t know they needed but now that they’re using it they can’t live without it.
The time that should be dedicated to learning your product inside and out and climbing inside the mind of your ideal customer can be considerable, and that investment of time and effort is reflected in my pricing.
I don’t want to just be handed talking points or some copy or a script and then adapt it into an ad spot on my channel. I want to climb inside your product and the mind of the customer who would love to purchase it to demonstrate in my video why what you’ve made has real value.
OPTION 1 | 60 SECONDS
In this video I’ll create a tradition ad spot that occurs in the middle of a video about something related to Final Cut Pro. Without knowing what plug-in you’re trying to promote, it’s difficult to know what kind of Final Cut Pro video I’d make to wrap around the ad spot. That being said, it’s important to me to make my ad spots feel like an organic, natural part of the existing video rather than an abrupt halt to the topic at hand to hear a message from a sponsor.
If I can make a tutorial about something of value to the audience and then show a brief overview of how your new plugin makes that process even better, that’s the ideal integration of your promotion. Think of this option more as a product placement than an ad read where I sound scripted, where talking points are read, etc. I want this to feel like a casual mention of your plug-in in relationship to the tutorial I’m creating.
OPTION 2 | BRIEF DEMO
This is very similar to option 1 but the key difference is that instead of doing a tight 60 second introduction or overview of the plug-in, I’ll be going deeper into how it works, key pain points it solves, why I really enjoy using it, etc. The length of this integration may be several minutes and possibly as long as five minutes. The key here is that I’m going to be creating a tutorial about a specific process in Final Cut Pro, and I’m going to naturally and organically integrate a short demo of your plug-in into the video.
SAMPLE VIDEO
I produced three sponsored videos for Track Club, and in this sample video I have a brief demo of their excellent feature Mix Lab. The demo starts at 4:16.
OPTION 3 | DEDICATED VIDEO
For this option, I’ll produce a dedicated video that’s devoted entirely to your plug-in. I’ll talk about what editing situations this plug-in is best for, what pain points a user might be experiencing that can be solved with this plug-in, what delightful surprises I discovered when learning and using the plug-in, etc. Look at any of my videos about Chronosync, Hedge, NeoFinder, etc. and you’ll see how I sit down with viewers to teach more than just HOW to do something but WHY you should be doing it.
SAMPLE VIDEO
Here’s a recent video I produced all about how to use Chronosync to sync Final Cut Pro Libraries.
